Migrant workers stripped, beaten, and paraded in Odisha’s Sundargarh

Bhubaneswar, Dec 12: In a shocking incident in Odisha’s Sundargarh district, a group of villagers publicly humiliated eight migrant workers from Murshidabad, West Bengal, accusing them of misconduct towards a woman.

The incident occurred on Thursday on Mission Road within the jurisdiction of Sundargarh Town police.

The trouble began when a woman alleged that one of the workers had unlawfully entered her home and behaved inappropriately. In response, members of her community targeted the group of workers, violently assaulting them. The eight workers, who were residing together, were forced to strip in public and were paraded while their hands were bound with ropes.

Upon receiving reports of the incident, police arrived to disperse the agitated crowd, but faced resistance and were also attacked. Despite the chaos, law enforcement managed to escort the workers to the police station for their safety. The worker accused of the inappropriate behavior has been taken into custody. Subsequently, the woman filed an official complaint at the Sundargarh Town police station regarding the incident.
