Major train cancellations announced by ECoR due to cyclone Dana

Bhubaneswar, Oct 22: In response to the impending cyclone Dana, the East Coast Railway (ECoR) has announced the cancellation of numerous trains scheduled to operate in the coming days. The decision is part of precautionary measures to ensure the safety of passengers amid severe weather conditions anticipated in the region.

The Indian Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a warning as a cyclonic storm is projected to approach the coasts of Odisha and West Bengal between October 24 and 25. The storm is expected to bring winds reaching speeds of 100-120 km/h at the time of landfall.

Coastal areas in both states are bracing for heavy rainfall and strong winds as the storm approaches.

The IMD reported that a low-pressure area over the east-central Bay of Bengal has moved west-northwestward and intensified into a depression today. It is anticipated to continue moving west-northwest and transform into a cyclonic storm by October 23 in the east-central Bay of Bengal.

The storm is expected to escalate into a severe cyclonic storm as it approaches the northwest Bay of Bengal on October 24, ultimately making landfall along the coasts of north Odisha and West Bengal between Puri and Sagar Island during the night of October 24 and the morning of October 25.
