Cyclone Dana to hit Kendrapara-Bhadrak coast on October 24 evening, predicts CEC

Bhubaneswar, Oct 23: The deep depression over the Bay of Bengal has intensified into a cyclonic storm and is moving toward the Odisha coast, according to the Centre for Environment and Climate (CEC) at Siksha ‘O’ Anusandhan Deemed to be University (SOA). As of Wednesday morning, the storm was located approximately 530 km southeast of Paradip and was heading northwest. It is expected to make landfall near Rajnagar, along the Kendrapara-Bhadrak coast, on Thursday afternoon or evening.

The cyclone is projected to have a significant impact on Balasore and Bhadrak districts, where wind speeds could exceed 80 km/h, with strong winds beginning around 11 PM on Wednesday. By Thursday morning, wind speeds may reach between 100 and 120 km/h.

In Bhubaneswar and surrounding areas, winds are expected to range from 45 to 60 km/h, while Jajpur and Mayurbhanj districts may experience winds of 75 to 90 km/h, and Ganjam district is anticipated to see winds between 35 and 45 km/h during landfall. Light rain is forecast for Wednesday in coastal regions, with heavy to very heavy rainfall expected in Kendrapara, Bhadrak, Cuttack, Jajpur, Mayurbhanj, Khurda, and Dhenkanal starting Thursday morning.
