IMD issues rainfall alerts as cyclonic circulation persists over Odisha-Andhra region

Bhubaneswar, Sept 10: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) on Wednesday reported that the upper air cyclonic circulation over South Odisha and North Coastal Andhra Pradesh remains active and now extends up to 3.1 km above mean sea level. The weather system is expected to bring widespread rain and thunderstorms to several parts of Odisha over the next few days.
In its mid-day weather bulletin, the IMD issued a Yellow Warning for September 11, cautioning of thunderstorms with lightning and gusty winds of 30–40 kmph at one or two places across districts including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, Nabarangpur, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, Jagatsinghpur, Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Ganjam, and Gajapati.
For September 12, an Orange Warning has been issued for Malkangiri district, forecasting heavy to very heavy rainfall along with lightning and gusty winds. On the same day, Yellow Warnings have been sounded for Koraput, Nabarangpur, Rayagada, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar districts.
The IMD has further extended the Yellow Warning till September 15, covering multiple districts. Authorities have urged people to remain cautious, avoid open areas during lightning, and take safety measures to prevent rain-related hazards such as waterlogging and localized flooding.
