Heavy rain and thunderstorms expected in Odisha; fishermen warned to stay ashore

Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: Odisha is expected to experience heavy rainfall over the next four days as a new low-pressure area is forecasted to form over the east-central and adjacent north Bay of Bengal on Thursday, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
This system is likely to bring a period of significant wet weather to the state until August 31. The low-pressure area is anticipated to move west-northwestward near the south Odisha and north Andhra Pradesh coasts in the coming days.
The IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) at isolated locations in Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Ganjam, Gajapati, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sundargarh, and Balasore over the next 24 hours. Thunderstorms and lightning are also expected in these regions, along with coastal districts.

Yellow Warning: Heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) and thunderstorms with lightning may affect isolated locations in Ganjam, Gajapati, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, Puri, Khurda, Nayagarh, Kendrapara, Nuapada, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
August 30:
Orange Warning: Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20 cm) with isolated extremely heavy rainfall (>20 cm) is likely in Malkangiri and Koraput. Heavy to very heavy rain (7 to 20 cm) is expected in Nawarangpur, Kalahandi, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Yellow Warning: Heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) may occur at isolated spots in Nuapada, Bolangir, Boudh, Kandhamal, Nayagarh, Khurda, Puri, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur.
August 31:
Yellow Warning: Heavy rain (7 to 11 cm) is likely in isolated areas of Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Balangir, Nuapada, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
Fishermen are advised to avoid venturing into the sea along and off the Odisha coast on August 30 and 31 due to adverse weather conditions.
