PM Modi and Amit Shah return to Delhi after DGP/IGP conference in Bhubaneswar
Bhubaneswar, Dec 1: Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Home Minister Amit Shah have returned to Delhi following the conclusion of the 59th DGsP/IGsP Conference 2024, held in Bhubaneswar. The event, which spanned three days, ended on Sunday.
The leaders departed from Biju Patnaik International Airport after spending time in the Odisha capital. The conference brought together Directors General of Police and Inspectors General of Police from all states and union territories, as well as heads of Central Armed Police Forces (CAPFs) and Central Police Organisations (CPOs). While many attended in person, officers from various ranks joined virtually from across the country.
According to official sources, the conference focused on creating strategies to address current and emerging national security challenges, such as Left-Wing Extremism (LWE), coastal security, drug trafficking, cybercrime, and economic security. Progress in implementing new criminal laws and reviewing best practices in policing were also key topics of discussion.
Speaking after the event, Twin City Police Commissioner Suresh Devadatta Singh emphasized the stringent security measures put in place. “Amid potential threats, a foolproof security arrangement was ensured throughout the event. All possible risks were thoroughly examined and addressed,” he said.
The conference was held peacefully despite threats from extremist groups. US-based Khalistani extremist Gurpatwant Singh Pannun had previously issued threats to disrupt the event, but robust security ensured the smooth conduct of the proceedings.
