Chief Minister applauds Odisha’s medalists at World Skills Competition

Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: Chief Minister Mohan Majhi has extended his congratulations to Amaresh Kumar Sahu and Gedela Akhil for their remarkable performances at the 47th World Skills Competition held in Lyon, France, from September 10 to 15, 2024.
Sahu earned a Bronze Medal in Renewable Energy, while Shri Akhil was awarded the Medallion for Excellence in Water Technology, bringing honor to Odisha on the global stage.
In his congratulatory message, Chief Minister Majhi said, “The achievements of our talented youth at the WorldSkills Competition fill us with immense pride. Their success highlights Odisha’s dedication to cultivating young talent and developing skills that meet international standards. I offer my heartfelt congratulations to Amaresh Kumar Sahu and Gedela Akhil, as well as to the institutions that supported their training, including the World Skill Center, CTTC, and CV Raman Global University. Odisha’s journey toward becoming a leader in skill development is progressing well, and these victories will inspire many to strive for global excellence.”
Amaresh Kumar Sahu, from Deogarh District, is currently pursuing a Diploma in Mechatronics at Central Tool Room & Training Centre (CTTC) in Bhubaneswar. Gedela Akhil is studying for his BTech in Civil Engineering at CV Raman Global University, Bhubaneswar.
The WorldSkills Competition, the largest skills event worldwide, features participants from over 80 countries competing across various sectors such as manufacturing, technology, and services. This year's edition in Lyon saw 15 out of 60 Indian participants from Odisha, underscoring the state's leadership in skill development.
The rigorous selection process for WorldSkills involves a three-tiered evaluation before participants represent India on the international stage. Odisha’s World Skill Center, Bhubaneswar, played a crucial role in mentoring and preparing these participants. Shri Sahu received specialized training from Vietnam, and Shri Akhil benefited from mentorship by an expert from South Africa.
Through its initiatives, Odisha has established itself as a hub of excellence in skill development, reinforcing its global reputation for talent and innovation. The achievements of these exceptional individuals mark a significant milestone in the state's ongoing efforts to advance skill development.
