PM Modi slams opposition over criticism of Ganesh Puja visit to CJI's residence

Bhubaneswar, Sept 17: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Tuesday criticized opposition parties for their backlash following his recent visit to Chief Justice DY Chandrachud's residence during Ganesh Puja celebrations.

Speaking at a special event in Janata Maidan, Bhubaneswar, Modi remarked, "Historically, even the British, who practiced divide and rule, disdained Ganesh Utsav. Today, those who seek to divide society are also opposed to Ganesh Puja. The Congress and its affiliates have shown their displeasure over my participation in Ganpati Puja."

He further condemned the Karnataka government’s decision to place a Lord Ganesha idol behind bars, describing it as a disturbing and dangerous act of divisiveness. Modi urged the public to resist such hateful ideologies, which he believes threaten the unity of the nation.

During the same address, Modi also honored Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel on Hyderabad Mukti Divas, marking September 17. He praised Patel’s role in uniting India, contrasting his leadership with the divisive efforts of foreign powers and opportunists. Modi described Hyderabad Liberation Day as both a historical milestone and a symbol of national integrity and duty.
