Self-proclaimed HIV and cancer doctor arrested in Bhubaneswar for fraud

Bhubaneswar, Aug 28: In Bhubaneswar's Laxmisagar, a self-proclaimed specialist in HIV, cancer, and skin disorders has been arrested for defrauding individuals of significant sums of money. The accused, who lacked the necessary qualifications, falsely claimed expertise in treating HIV and cancer.
The primary suspect, Ajit Kumar Kandi, was apprehended along with two associates who also posed as skin specialists. The trio, operating under Asclepius Wellness Private Limited, sold herbal products under the false pretense of curing HIV, cancer, and improving skin fairness. They primarily targeted women seeking skin treatments, promising them flawless and glowing skin, and defrauded several of them.
The Laxmisagar Police seized cash and a vehicle from Kandi. The case came to light after a victim reported the fraudulent activities to the police.
According to sources, one of the victims had been promised radiant skin and given medicines and fairness creams by Kandi. Instead of improving, her skin condition worsened, leading to more scars. Manas Kumar Deo, ACP of Zone-4, stated, "The victim's complaint led to the arrest. The medicines provided by the accused had no therapeutic or beneficial value."
