Bhubaneswar, Nov 27: Badagada police rescued a four-year-old girl on Wednesday who was allegedly sold by her parents for Rs 40,000. Six individuals, including two couples and two middlemen, have been detained for questioning in connection with the case.

The incident came to light after Sarthak Mohanty filed a complaint with the police, claiming that a couple from Bihar, who were renting a house from him, had sold their young daughter. Following the complaint, the police launched an investigation and discovered that the child had been sold to a couple in the Pipili area.

Upon tracking down the couple, police rescued the girl and brought both the couple and the parents to the station for questioning. The two middlemen involved in the transaction are also being interrogated to determine the reasons behind the sale of the child.

The investigation is ongoing, and sources indicate that the child will be handed over to the Child Welfare Committee for further care and protection.
