Cuttack Heritage Walk celebrates the legacy of “Chandi Medhas”

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: As the Puja festivities approach, the iconic “Chandi Medhas” of Cuttack, known for their exquisite filigree work, take center stage. To immerse heritage enthusiasts from the Twin Cities in the rich traditions of the "Chandi Medhas," Cuttack Heritage Walks (CHW) organized a special heritage trail today. Starting at Madhusudan Sangrahalaya near Sailabala Women’s College, the walk offered a glimpse into the living legacy of the famous silver filigree artistry.
Around 40 participants from various backgrounds joined this 65th edition of CHW’s walk. Eminent writer and Cuttack native, Raja Parija, guided the group, sharing insights on the history and socio-economic aspects of “Chandi Medhas,” including the contributions of Muslim artisans. Parija’s engaging narration detailed the craftsmanship, materials, and significant expenses involved in creating these intricate silver designs.
Led by CHW convener Dipak Samantarai, participants visited prominent pandals, including Kanika Chhak, Tulasipur, Deulasahi, and Choudhury Bazaar. The walk also included stops to savor traditional Odia sweets and the famous “dahibara aloodam,” enriching the experience of Cuttack’s vibrant cultural heritage.
