Veteran Odia actor Uttam Mohanty passes away

Bhubaneswar, Feb 27: Veteran Odia film actor Uttam Mohanty passed away today while undergoing treatment at Medanta Hospital in Gurgaon.

The celebrated actor, who was suffering from liver cirrhosis, had been airlifted from Bhubaneswar for advanced medical care after initially receiving treatment at KIMS Super Specialty Hospital. His deteriorating health had deeply worried his fans and well-wishers, who had been praying for his recovery.

Mohanty was a towering figure in Odia cinema, having acted in over 110 films and numerous television serials. Known for his versatility, he played a wide range of roles across genres, from romantic leads to intense dramatic characters.

His contributions to the industry earned him immense respect, and he remains the only Odia actor to have won the state government’s Best Actor Award for three consecutive years (1982–1984). In recognition of his illustrious career, he was honored with the prestigious Jayadeva Award in 1999.

His passing marks the end of an era in Odia cinema, leaving a lasting legacy that will continue to inspire future generations.
