Odisha schools to reopen on June 20 amid ongoing monsoon transition

Bhubaneswar, June 16: Schools across Odisha, which had declared an early summer vacation due to the severe heatwave in April, will now reopen on June 20, 2025, instead of the previously scheduled date of June 18. The revised decision was announced by the School and Mass Education Department on Monday.
“In partial modification of the instructions issued vide the above mentioned letters, it is to inform you that the date of reopening of the schools may be read as 20.06.2025 instead of 18.06.2025,” the department stated in an official communiqué addressed to all District Education Officers (DEOs).
All government and private educational institutions, including anganwadi centres, pre-schools, and schools up to Class XII, had been shut across the state from April 23. The decision to prepone the summer vacation by around two weeks was made in response to the extreme temperatures that affected most parts of Odisha.
The extension of the holiday comes as the state experiences unstable weather due to monsoon advancement. Authorities have also directed schools to resume mid-day meal services from the very first day of reopening to ensure student welfare.
