Southwest monsoon advances early into Odisha

Bhubaneswar, June 8: The southwest monsoon reached Odisha on Saturday, affecting parts of Malkangiri district, according to the India Meteorological Department (IMD). This year's monsoon has arrived earlier than usual, as predicted by the IMD, bringing rainfall to various regions in the state, including Malkangiri and neighboring districts.
Typically, the monsoon sets in over southern Odisha around June 12, but this year it has arrived approximately four days early.
The current northern limit of the monsoon extends through Baramati, Nizamabad, Sukma, Malkangiri, and Vizianagaram, as reported by Manorama Mohanty, Director of the Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar.
The IMD had previously indicated that conditions were ripe for the monsoon's early onset in the state. Sources suggest that the monsoon is likely to advance further into other parts of Odisha in the coming days following its arrival in Malkangiri.
