Odisha districts on alert as cyclonic activity promises heavy rainfall ahead
Bhubaneswar, June 27: Due to a cyclonic circulation forming over the Bay of Bengal, several districts in Odisha, including Malkangiri, Koraput, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Ganjam, are expected to experience heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next four days, according to the latest forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD).
Additionally, IMD has issued a yellow warning for heavy rainfall in Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Nuapada, and Bargarh districts.
The cyclonic storm, currently situated over the west-central and northwest Bay of Bengal, is likely to intensify rainfall across the state, as observed with significant rainfall in various districts on Wednesday due to the cyclonic circulation.
IMD reports indicate that Nayagarh recorded 110 mm of rainfall, followed by Parlakhemundi with 70 mm, Nabarangpur with 23 mm, Bhubaneswar with 21.3 mm, Malkangiri with 17 mm, Titlagarh with 15 mm, Phulbani with 14 mm, and Daringbadi with 13 mm.
Malkangiri and Koraput districts are expected to receive even higher rainfall amounts ranging from 115 mm to 200 mm on Thursday.
