Orissa High Court orders immediate filling of junior teacher vacancies

Bhubaneswar, Dec 23: The Orissa High Court on Monday directed the state government to promptly address the vacancies for junior teacher positions in various schools.
The court issued an order concerning the recruitment of junior teachers, instructing the Odisha government to create a second merit list to fill the remaining vacant posts based on merit.
Previously, the Odisha Government had announced a recruitment drive for 20,000 junior teachers. After the examination, a final merit list was compiled, identifying 16,000 candidates who met the cut-off mark. However, 4,000 positions remained unfilled.
Out of the 16,000 selected candidates, approximately 2,000 did not report for duty, increasing the total number of vacancies to 6,000.
Subsequently, some candidates who were not included in the first merit list approached the Orissa High Court, requesting that the government produce a new merit list with a lower cut-off mark.
In response to their petition, the High Court ordered the state government to create a second merit list and fill the remaining vacancies without delay, according to sources.
