Similipal Tiger Reserve welcomes new Royal Bengal Tiger from Maharashtra

Bhubaneswar, Oct 27: A Royal Bengal Tiger from Maharashtra has arrived at Similipal Tiger Reserve in Mayurbhanj district, Odisha. According to reports, a specialized team transported the tiger to Similipal on Sunday to support the initiative to boost the tiger population in the reserve. The tiger, sourced from the Tadoba-Andhari Tiger Reserve in Maharashtra, will be released into the core area of Similipal.

Previously, the Odisha government had requested the National Tiger Conservation Authority to approve tiger translocation to Similipal. Last week, a dedicated team, including the Similipal Director, Assistant Director, veterinary experts, and a rapid response team, traveled to Maharashtra to facilitate the tiger's relocation from Tadoba-Andhari.

As part of Odisha’s tiger relocation program, five tigers are expected to be introduced—two for Similipal Tiger Reserve and three for Debrigarh Wildlife Sanctuary in Bargarh district. These tigers will be sourced from both Madhya Pradesh and Maharashtra to enhance the conservation efforts in the state.
