Shaktikanta Das appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to PM Modi

Bhubaneswar, Feb 22: Former Reserve Bank of India (RBI) Governor Shaktikanta Das has been appointed as Principal Secretary-2 to Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet (ACC) approved his appointment, with an official order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) under the Ministry of Personnel, Public Grievances, and Pensions on Saturday.

Das will work alongside P.K. Mishra, the existing Principal Secretary-1 to the Prime Minister. As per the order, his tenure will be co-terminus with the Prime Minister’s term or until further notice.

A 1980-batch IAS officer from the Tamil Nadu cadre, Das assumed the role of RBI Governor in December 2018 and completed his six-year tenure on December 10, 2024. During his tenure, he navigated global economic challenges, including the COVID-19 pandemic and the Russia-Ukraine war.

Recognized as one of the top three central bankers globally, Das received an A+ rating in the Global Finance Central Banker Report Cards 2024. Originally from Bhubaneswar, Odisha, he has also held key positions in the Union and Tamil Nadu governments, including Economic Affairs Secretary, Revenue Secretary, and Fertilizers Secretary.
