Private bus operators in Malkangiri strike against LAccMI service

Bhubaneswar, Aug 25: Private bus operators in Malkangiri district, Odisha, have initiated a strike on Sunday in protest against the LAccMI bus service.

They argue that the introduction of this tier-two bus service is negatively impacting their business. Launched in October 2023, the LAccMI service initially did not affect local routes between panchayats and block headquarters.

However, the issue arises with the operation of AC buses on routes between blocks and the district headquarters, which the operators believe is detrimental to their operations.

The bus owners highlighted their financial challenges, including loans and EMIs, which are managed through their regular bus services. They expressed concerns that the competition from LAccMI could lead them to bankruptcy if not addressed. They are calling for a resolution to mitigate the adverse effects on their livelihoods and ensure the sustainability of their businesses.
