Odisha’s Tanvi Patri clinches gold in Women’s U15 at Badminton Asia Junior Championships
New Delhi, Aug 25: Tanvi Patri delivered an outstanding performance at the Badminton Asia Junior Championships, clinching the gold medal in the U15 women’s category. The 13-year-old, who entered the tournament as the top seed, demonstrated exceptional skill and determination throughout the event.
In the final, Tanvi faced Vietnam’s second-seeded Nguyen Thi Thu Huyen and secured a straight-game victory with scores of 22-20 and 21-11. Despite a challenging start, where she trailed 11-17 in the first game, Tanvi managed to turn the match around as Nguyen made several unforced errors. Tanvi capitalized on these mistakes, closing out the first game after a tense deuce.
Buoyed by her comeback, Tanvi dominated the second game with aggressive play and precision, ultimately securing a 21-11 win to claim the title. Her flawless run through the tournament, winning every game, underscored her potential as a rising star in Indian badminton.
This victory marks India’s second medal at the championships, following Tankara Gnana Dattu Talasila's bronze in the U17 men’s singles. Dattu, the second seed, began his semifinal match strongly against Indonesia’s Radithya Bayu Wardhana but lost the next two games after winning the first, missing out on the final.
