Lakshya Sen's stunning win secures spot in Paris Olympics pre-quarterfinals

New Delhi, July 31: Lakshya Sen achieved a stunning victory over the third-seeded Indonesian Jonatan Christie, with scores of 21-18, 21-12, in his final Group L men’s singles match at the Paris Olympics.

Despite a shaky start, with Sen trailing 8-2 in the first game, the 22-year-old Indian shuttler made a remarkable comeback. After leveling the score at 10-all, the match became a tight contest, with both players tied at 18-18. Sen managed to edge out Christie, winning the first game 21-18.

Sen maintained his aggressive play throughout the second game, expertly defending against Christie’s attempts to regain control. He sealed the match with a commanding 21-12 win in the second game.

This victory advances Lakshya Sen to the pre-quarterfinals, where he could potentially face fellow Indian H.S. Prannoy, provided Prannoy wins his match against Vietnamese shuttler Le Duc Phat later in the day.

Earlier, in the women’s singles category, PV Sindhu solidified her position by defeating Estonia’s Kristin Kuuba 21-5, 21-10. Sindhu topped Group M and secured her place in the Round of 16.
