Prime accused in Baliharachandi gang-rape case nabbed from Andhra Pradesh

Bhubaneswar, Sept 16: In a significant breakthrough, police have arrested the main accused in the gang-rape of a young woman near the famous Baliharachandi temple in Puri district. The accused, identified as Manoj Behera, was apprehended from Andhra Pradesh following a coordinated operation. With his arrest, all four men linked to the case are now in custody.

According to reports, the heinous incident took place on Saturday when the victim, who had visited the Baliharachandi temple, was abducted and later subjected to sexual assault by the accused group. The case sparked outrage in the region, prompting swift police action. While three of the accused had already been arrested earlier, intensive efforts were underway to track the absconding Manoj, who was finally located and brought back for questioning.

Police officials confirmed that the medical examination of all four accused will be carried out, while the survivor has already undergone medical tests as part of the investigation. Authorities have assured strict action, stating that a strong chargesheet will be prepared to ensure swift trial and justice for the victim.
