Over 34.85 lakh Odisha Farmers receive 20th PM-Kisan installment; CM highlights support for agriculture sector

Bhubaneswar, Aug 2: In a major boost to the farming community, more than 34.85 lakh farmers in Odisha received the 20th installment of financial assistance under the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme on Saturday. The disbursal was part of a nationwide event launched by Prime Minister Narendra Modi from Varanasi, Uttar Pradesh, marking the celebration of PM Kisan Diwas.

In Odisha, the state-level event was held at ICAR-CIFA on the outskirts of Bhubaneswar, where Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi disbursed Rs 697 crore, with each eligible farmer receiving Rs 2,000 for the April–July 2025 period. The amount was directly transferred to farmers’ bank accounts to ensure transparency.

“All categories of farmers—small, medium, large, and even urban—benefit from this scheme,” said CM Majhi. He emphasized that through PM-KISAN and the CM Kisan Yojana, farmers in Odisha now receive Rs 10,000 annually, with the state contributing Rs 4,000 under its own initiative.

Majhi also highlighted Odisha’s Samruddha Krushak Yojana, under which an additional Rs 800 per quintal of paddy is given as input assistance. Last year, 17 lakh farmers received around Rs 6,000 crore during the Kharif season, and over 3 lakh farmers benefited from Rs 1,600 crore in the Rabi season.

The CM reaffirmed his commitment to bringing every eligible farmer under PM-Kisan through saturation drives, while encouraging crop diversification, pisciculture, and animal husbandry to multiply farm incomes and achieve the Prime Minister’s vision of farmer prosperity.
