Odisha sizzles as Jharsuguda records season’s highest temperature at 37°C

Bhubaneswar, Feb 13: Odisha experienced its highest temperature of the season on Wednesday, with Jharsuguda recording a scorching 37°C, as per data from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Several other parts of the state also witnessed a significant rise in mercury levels, indicating an early onset of summer-like conditions.

Among the hottest locations, Bhadrak recorded 36.2°C, followed by Balangir at 36°C, Angul at 35.7°C, and Bhubaneswar at 34.8°C. The rising temperatures have caused discomfort among residents, especially those exposed to outdoor activities, with many reporting uneasiness due to the sudden heat surge.

The Regional Meteorological Centre in Bhubaneswar has forecasted a drop in minimum temperatures by 3-5°C over the next four days, providing some relief. However, no significant changes in night temperatures are expected after this period.

With temperatures soaring, the IMD has advised people to take necessary precautions, including staying hydrated, avoiding direct sunlight during peak hours, and wearing light, breathable clothing. Authorities have also urged vulnerable groups, such as the elderly and children, to remain cautious and avoid excessive exposure to the heat.
