Odisha sees 236 cases under new BNS law on July 1
Bhubaneswar, July 2: A total of 236 cases have been filed in Odisha under the Bhartiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS) since its enforcement on July 1. The Odisha police reported that out of 490 cases registered in the Crime and Criminal Tracking Network & System on Monday, 236 were specifically under BNS.
The first case in Bhubaneswar under this new criminal law was filed at Laxmisagar police station. According to DCP Prateek Singh, the case (No. 370/24) involves charges including wrongful restraint, voluntarily causing hurt, grievous hurt with dangerous weapons, and attempt to murder. Following this, other police stations across the city have also begun registering cases under the new laws.
Laxmisagar police station's IIC P Shyam Sundar Rao confirmed the registration of the case and assigned the investigation to SI G Saha. The complaint alleges threats and an attack on June 29, with subsequent threats leading to the filing of the FIR on Monday. Additionally, four other police stations in Bhubaneswar have registered at least one case each under BNS.
