IMD predicts increased rainfall in five Odisha districts this July

Bhubaneswar, July 2: Odisha is bracing for a significant rise in rainfall this July, as per the latest forecasts from the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Five districts—Balasore, Mayurbhanj, Bhadrak, Jajpur, and Keonjhar—are expected to receive above-average rainfall, with isolated areas in Koraput and Malkangiri also likely to experience increased precipitation.

IMD's regional center has indicated a likelihood of above-normal rainfall in interior Odisha, contrasting with lower expected rainfall in parts of the western region. As of July 2, the state has recorded 164 mm of rainfall since June 1, which is approximately 24% below the normal expectation of 216.5 mm.

Malkangiri has already observed above-average rainfall, while Mayurbhanj remains notably humid. Thirteen districts have reported above-average rainfall, with fifteen experiencing moderate levels, according to IMD's regional center.

The IMD forecasts predict light to moderate rainfall over the next five days, with the possibility of heavy rain in Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Rayagada, Deogarh, Sambalpur, and Bargarh by Tuesday morning. Intermittent rain is expected in districts including Sundergarh, Jharsuguda, Keonjhar, Deogarh, Mayurbhanj, Balasore, Bhadrak, Jajpur, Kendrapara, Cuttack, and Jagatsinghpur over the next 24 hours.
