Modi alleges BJD's incompetence in safeguarding Odisha's resources
Bhubaneswar, May 20: In his latest address in Odisha, Prime Minister Narendra Modi continued his critique of the BJD government, expressing concern over the state's cultural heritage, mineral wealth, and socio-economic development.
Expressing dismay at the prevalent poverty despite the state's abundant natural resources, Modi squarely blamed the current administration for mismanagement. He accused the BJD government of allowing corruption to flourish, alleging that key governmental positions have been seized by a select few, leading to widespread maladministration and the enrichment of certain party members.
Modi highlighted his government's efforts to ensure equitable distribution of mining revenues through policies like the District Mineral Fund, which aims to channel a portion of mining proceeds into local development projects. However, he accused the BJD of embezzling these funds, citing instances in Dhenkanal where allocated resources were allegedly misappropriated.
The Prime Minister also raised concerns about the security of Odisha's cultural treasures, citing the unresolved issue of the missing keys to the Ratna Bhandar at the Shree Jagannath Temple. He criticized the BJD for its handling of the situation and vowed to bring transparency by making the inquiry report public once a BJP government is established in the state.
Emphasizing the importance of Odia leadership in driving the state's progress, Modi promised to appoint a Chief Minister from the region under a BJP government. He announced June 10th as the date for the swearing-in ceremony, affirming his party's commitment to usher in a new era of development through a "double-engine government" in Odisha.
