IMD issues heavy rainfall and crop damage warning for Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 25: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted heavy rainfall across 10 districts in Odisha on Thursday. The affected districts include Nabarangpur, Kalahandi, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Khurda, Cuttack, Kendrapada, Jagatsinghpur, Gajapati, and Ganjam.
In its bulletin, the IMD warned that heavy rainfall might damage horticultural crops and standing paddy fields. Farmers are advised to take precautionary measures, such as safeguarding harvested crops, using tarpaulin sheets for protection, and ensuring adequate drainage to prevent waterlogging in fields. Mechanical support should be provided to horticultural crops, while staking is recommended for vegetables to minimize potential losses.
The IMD has also issued a dense fog warning for several districts, including Bargarh, Sundargarh, Jharsuguda, Mayurbhanj, Keonjhar, Sambalpur, Bolangir, and Sonepur. The dense fog is expected to impact transportation, visibility, and aviation services in these areas.
The weather department has urged residents and travelers to exercise caution and plan their movements carefully to avoid potential disruptions caused by adverse weather conditions.
