Odisha braces for heavy rain as low-pressure system intensifies

Bhubaneswar, Sept 7: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecasted significant rainfall across various regions of Odisha today due to an active low-pressure system over the Bay of Bengal.
This low-pressure area has shifted northwards and is currently positioned over the northwest and central Bay of Bengal, with cyclonic circulation reaching up to 7.6 km above sea level.
A yellow alert has been issued, predicting heavy rainfall ranging from 7 to 11 cm in districts such as Puri, Khordha, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Ganjam, Gajapati, Rayagada, Kalahandi, Nawarangpur, Koraput, and Malkangiri.
The system is expected to intensify into a depression by September 8, moving west-northwest, and causing heavy rainfall in parts of Odisha, West Bengal, Jharkhand, and Chhattisgarh over the next three days.
Heavy rainfall (7 to 11 cm) is likely in isolated areas of Kendrapada, Khordha, Puri, Jagatsinghpur, Cuttack, Nayagarh, Kandhamal, Kalahandi, and Nawarangpur on Sunday.
