New Task Force aims to address development disparities in Southern Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Dec 4: The Odisha State Government has formed a Task Force to propose a framework for the establishment of a Southern Odisha Development Council (SODC). The Task Force will be chaired by Nityananda Gond, the Minister for ST&SC Development, M&BC Welfare, School and Mass Education, along with SSEPD.
In addition to the Chairman, the Task Force includes various key members: Bibhuti Bhusan Jena, Minister for C&T and Steel and Mines; Gokulananda Mallik, Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Fisheries, Animal Resources Development, and Micro Small and Medium Enterprises; and several MLAs and MPs representing the southern region. Ex-officio members include the RDC (Southern Division), RDC (Central Division), and the CEO of the Western Odisha Development Council, while the Special Secretary of the Planning and Convergence Department will serve as Member Convener.
The establishment of the SODC aims to promote inclusive development and address regional disparities in Odisha. The Task Force is tasked with identifying the districts and blocks to be included in the SODC and defining its structure and functions. They are expected to submit their recommendations within 30 days of the notification. The Task Force will establish its own procedures and meet regularly, with the Chairman having the authority to invite additional experts to assist in their discussions.
