Former MLA Prakash Behera exits BJD, sends resignation to Naveen

Bhubaneswar, Oct 10: Former MLA Prakash Behera has resigned from the primary membership of the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) on Thursday. He submitted his resignation letter to BJD president and Odisha Chief Minister, Naveen Patnaik.

Behera had recently contested the Cuttack Barabati Assembly seat on a BJD ticket in the last general elections. His journey within Odisha’s political sphere has been dynamic. Earlier this year, in April, Behera had switched to the BJD after resigning from the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP). Prior to this, Behera was a member of Congress, having successfully contested the 2014 Assembly elections from the Salipur constituency on a Congress ticket.

In 2019, he made the decision to leave Congress and join the BJP, where he contested from the same constituency. However, he was defeated by BJD candidate Prashant Behera in that election. His latest resignation marks yet another shift in Behera's political career, as he parts ways with the BJD.
