Odisha Government to investigate allegations of irregularities in BSKY

Bhubaneswar, Jan 14: The Odisha government has announced an investigation into the allegations of irregularities concerning the Biju Swasthya Kalyan Yojana (BSKY), a health insurance scheme initiated by the previous BJD government.
Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan informed the media that despite many beneficiaries having BSKY cards, they were denied access to the scheme’s benefits. He also alleged that several patients were exploited and hospitals were imposing arbitrary charges. The minister further claimed that the irregularities were linked to individuals connected with the previous government.
To address these concerns, Harichandan assured that a thorough investigation would be conducted to look into the implementation and functioning of BSKY.
This announcement follows the Odisha government’s recent agreement with the Central Government's Ayushman Bharat Yojana. As part of the integration, the state’s own Gopabandhu Jan Arogya Yojana has been merged with Ayushman Bharat, benefiting over 1.03 crore families in Odisha.
Under the new arrangement, eligible beneficiaries will receive a bilingual health card that combines the benefits of both schemes, offering healthcare coverage of Rs 5 lakh per family annually, along with an additional Rs 5 lakh cover for women members.
