Odisha Assembly session disrupted by walkout over Governor’s son assault controversy

Bhubaneswar, July 22: On Monday, Leader of the Opposition (LoP) Naveen Patnaik criticized the Odisha government, claiming that the state’s law and order situation has deteriorated. His comments came in response to an incident where a government officer was reportedly assaulted by the son of the Odisha Governor.

Patnaik expressed disappointment and surprise that no action had been taken against the Governor’s son, who was involved in the alleged violence. He pointed out that in the past, immediate measures were taken against those in positions of power when they breached the law, and urged the current government to uphold legal standards.

Earlier, members of the BJD and Congress staged a walkout during the Governor’s speech on the first day of the Assembly session.

Congress MLA Tara Prasad Bahinipati voiced concerns, saying they had called on the Chief Minister to address the situation but had received no response. He emphasized the need to defend Odia pride and announced that protests would continue until the Governor’s son is held accountable.
