Cold wave continues in Odisha with Rourkela hitting 8.1 degrees

Bhubaneswar, Dec 13: Rourkela has emerged as the coldest location in Odisha, recording a temperature of 8.1 degrees Celsius over the past 24 hours, as reported by the India Meteorological Department (IMD). Following closely are G Udayagiri, a hill station in Kandhamal district, at 8.4 degrees Celsius, and Jharsuguda, which recorded 9.8 degrees Celsius.
This morning, dense fog shrouded Rourkela, Koraput, and Phulbani, significantly reducing visibility to just 50 meters. The temperature also dipped below 15 degrees Celsius in the twin cities of Bhubaneswar and Cuttack, where the temperatures were recorded at 14.5 degrees Celsius and 13.4 degrees Celsius, respectively.
Other areas experiencing chilly conditions include Phulbani at 10 degrees, Daringbadi at 11 degrees, and several locations in the range of 10 to 14.8 degrees across various districts.
The IMD has issued warnings about dense fog in parts of Sundargarh, Koraput, and Kandhamal through Saturday morning, while shallow to moderate fog may affect Jharsuguda, Ganjam, and Kalahandi until Sunday morning. The agency expects no significant changes in minimum temperatures for the next three days, followed by a gradual increase of 2 to 4 degrees over the following days.
