CM Majhi sets ambitious targets for Odisha as FDI destination by 2047

Bhubaneswar, Jan 8: Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi ardently promoted Odisha as a prime destination for Foreign Direct Investment (FDI) during the Joint Business Session at Pravasi Bharatiya Divas 2025. Speaking to a prominent audience of Indian diaspora entrepreneurs and leaders, he emphasized the state's vast potential as an investment hub, citing its strategic location, rich natural resources, and supportive policies for investors.

Majhi warmly welcomed the attendees, describing Odisha as the "Land of Opportunities." He stated, “While India is a favored destination for global FDI, our goal is to position Odisha as the top choice for FDI within the country.”

He pointed out Odisha’s competitive strengths, including being the second-richest state in minerals, its well-developed infrastructure featuring national highways, ports, and rail links, and a skilled workforce available at competitive costs. The Chief Minister also noted the state’s stable political environment and favorable law and order situation.

Majhi outlined the state’s ambitious growth vision in line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's goals for a $5 trillion economy and the "Purvodaya" initiative aimed at enhancing development in eastern India. He set an ambitious target for Odisha to emerge among India’s top five economies by 2047, aspiring for a $1.5 trillion economy by that time.

He highlighted that Odisha not only possesses abundant resources but also offers vast opportunities in emerging sectors like renewable energy, advanced manufacturing, petrochemicals, biotechnology, and tourism. With the support of the Double Engine Governance model, Majhi reaffirmed the state’s commitment to achieving these objectives.

As Odisha prepares to host the Utkarsh Odisha: Make in Odisha Conclave 2025 in Bhubaneswar, he invited global investors and members of the diaspora to help shape the state's growth narrative. He expressed optimism that Odisha’s investment-friendly environment, combined with the central government's infrastructure initiatives and visionary policies, would expedite its evolution into a leading investment destination.
