Bhubaneswar, Aug 31: In a landmark step towards strengthening grassroots administration and urban governance, Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi on Sunday announced the formation of 16 new Notified Area Councils (NACs) and 7 new municipalities across Odisha. The announcement was made during the Self-Governance Day celebrations at the Railway Auditorium in Bhubaneswar.

The decision aims to improve civic administration, infrastructure development, and delivery of essential services in emerging urban and semi-urban areas. Officials said the move will help smaller towns and fast-growing regions get direct access to urban facilities, ensuring planned growth and better quality of life for citizens.

The newly created NACs include Loisingha (Balangir), Sohela (Bargarh), Badamba, Narasinghpur, and Salepur (Cuttack), Gondia (Dhenkanal), Jagannathprasad and Patrapur (Ganjam), Chandikhole (Jajpur), Narla and Jayapatna (Kalahandi), Tangi (Khordha), Borigumma (Koraput), and Kaptipada, Jashipur, and Rasgovindpur (Mayurbhanj).

The new municipalities are Karanjia (Mayurbhanj), Boudh (Boudh), and Bhanjanagar, Aska, Chhatrapur, Kabisuryanagar, and Polasara (Ganjam).

The Chief Minister said the decision reflects the government’s commitment to inclusive urban development, enabling these regions to benefit from better sanitation, water supply, road infrastructure, and waste management services.
