Woman and son jump into Chitrotpala River; child found dead, mother missing

Bhubaneswar, Aug 14: A woman and her young son on Wednesday jumped into the Chitrotpala River from Nemala Bridge near Salipur in Cuttack. Locals were able to recover the child's body, estimated to be between 5 and 6 years old, but the mother's body has not yet been found.
The family is from the Nemala area, and the fire department is currently engaged in efforts to locate the mother’s body. As of the latest updates, the rescue operation is still ongoing.
The reasons behind the tragic incident remain unclear. However, family members have suggested that financial stress related to a group loan might have contributed to the woman’s actions. Additionally, the woman's daughter reported that the family had gone to the market earlier in the day for a medical test. On their way back, the mother allegedly pushed her brother into the river before jumping in herself.
The child was quickly rescued by locals and taken to SCB Medical College and Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. The Salipur police have initiated an investigation into the incident.
