Puri Town to be equipped with comprehensive CCTV surveillance system

Bhubaneswar, Oct 16: The pilgrimage town of Puri is set to come under comprehensive CCTV surveillance as the district administration has submitted a proposal for a large-scale CCTV project to the state government for approval.
According to Puri Collector Siddharth Shankar Swain, the proposal has been forwarded to the Works Department through the Odisha Bridge & Construction Corporation (OBCC). Once approved, the project will cover key areas, including the Shree Jagannath Temple and the Grand Road, enhancing the security of the town with advanced surveillance technology.
The plan involves installing approximately 620 high-capacity CCTV cameras at key entry points such as Samang, Malatipatapur, and Mansaghat. These cameras will be connected via optical fiber to a centralized command and control center, ensuring real-time monitoring of the town’s security and traffic.
Collector Swain emphasized that the project aims to make Puri safer by improving crowd management and reducing crime. Security measures have already been bolstered within the Jagannath Temple premises, with CCTV cameras installed on both the inner and outer walls to regulate crowd movement.
Additionally, tenders have been floated to install more cameras at all entrances, exits, and the Nata Mandap of the temple, further enhancing the security infrastructure. The project will begin soon after receiving the green light from the state government.
