No DJs or firecrackers: New rules set for Durga Puja immersion processions in Twin City

Bhubaneswar, Sept 21: As the festive spirit intensifies with Dussehra approaching, the Twin City Commissionerate Police held a peace meeting on Saturday to establish new guidelines for the celebrations. To prevent disturbances and potential conflicts, the police announced a complete ban on DJs and firecrackers during the immersion processions of Durga Puja.

Additionally, the use of sound boxes is now limited; puja committees are allowed a maximum of six sound boxes, with all sound systems required to cease operation by 10 PM during the festival. The Commissionerate Police urged all committees to prioritize peace and harmony during the festivities.

Immersion celebrations are restricted to 10 PM unless extended to midnight with the Odisha government’s approval. The police declared a zero-tolerance policy toward extortion and ‘chanda’ collections this year. Additional DCP Anil Mishra stated that an artificial pond will be constructed for the immersion of idols, and a toll-free number will soon be provided for reporting any extortion attempts, with the identities of complainants kept confidential. Donations from devotees will remain voluntary.
