Police raid uncovers unit producing adulterated milk products in Cuttack

Bhubaneswar, Sept 23: The Commissionerate Police on Monday dismantled a unit in Cuttack that was reportedly involved in the production of adulterated milk and related products, including curd and lassi. The operation took place in the Atada area under Jagatpur police jurisdiction.
ADCP Anil Mishra stated that the raid was conducted following complaints regarding a milk processing unit operating under unsanitary conditions. A combined team of Commissionerate police and health officials executed the raid in Atada village.
Mishra noted that samples were collected during the operation, and several items were seized, including skimmed milk powder, sodium hydroxide, and other chemicals. The milk produced was marketed under the Rohini brand.
He further explained that the skimmed milk powder was being diluted with ordinary tap water, and the unit lacked both a licensed chemist and proper pasteurization processes. Additionally, the establishment did not comply with regulations regarding labeling and weight measurements. While standard milk is typically pasteurized before sale, this unit was neglecting essential safety norms. The adulterated products were being distributed in the markets of Puri, Kendrapara, and Choudwar.
