Odisha partners with IIT Madras to launch real-time road safety dashboard for safer roads

Bhubaneswar, Aug 8: In a major step towards enhancing road safety through technology and public involvement, the Government of Odisha, in collaboration with IIT Madras, is developing a state-of-the-art real-time Road Safety Dashboard named Road Awareness and Traffic Harmony. The initiative was the focal point of a high-level meeting chaired by Usha Padhee, Principal Secretary, Commerce & Transport Department.
This innovative dashboard aims to serve as a central platform combining real-time data, analytics, and citizen engagement for proactive road safety measures. A key highlight is the citizen-focused module “Sahayaka” (ସହାୟକ), enabling people to report accidents instantly, reducing emergency response times. It also allows citizens to nominate “Raahveers”, or local first responders, who contribute to road safety at the grassroots level.
The initiative complements Odisha’s ongoing efforts such as the Zero Accident Day (ZAD) observance, ‘Come Home Safe’ campaign, and capacity-building programs with premier institutions. The dashboard will also integrate with existing platforms like ERSS and eDAR-CCTNS, and IIT Madras’s “Sanjaya” Road Safety Super App.
Speaking at the event, Padhee emphasized that the dashboard reflects a unified, people-centric approach to saving lives. The meeting ended with a shared commitment from all stakeholders to fast-track implementation.
