Heavy rain alert for Odisha as low-pressure system forms over Bay of Bengal
Bhubaneswar, Aug 11: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of a low-pressure system over the Northwest and adjoining Westcentral Bay of Bengal by August 13, which is expected to trigger a fresh spell of intense rainfall across Odisha starting Monday.
As per the regional weather office, several districts are likely to receive heavy to very heavy rainfall over the next few days. On Tuesday, Kandhamal, Rayagada, Gajapati, and Koraput are expected to witness the heaviest downpour, while Malkangiri, Nabarangapur, Kalahandi, Ganjam, Nayagarh, Khordha, Puri, Mayurbhanj, and Keonjhar may also experience heavy showers.
The wet conditions will continue on Wednesday, with Malkangiri, Koraput, Nabarangapur, Rayagada, and Gajapati likely to face very heavy rainfall. Heavy rain is also predicted for Ganjam, Kalahandi, Kandhamal, Balangir, and Nuapada. Additionally, scattered rain accompanied by thunderstorms is expected in parts of coastal, interior, and southern Odisha. By Thursday, Malkangiri and Koraput may once again see heavy to very heavy rainfall.
Authorities have urged residents, especially in low-lying and flood-prone areas, to remain alert and follow official weather advisories. People are advised to avoid unnecessary travel during heavy downpours and take all necessary precautions to ensure their safety.
