Odisha Govt accepts Abhay’s resignation as OSSC Chairman; Sudhakar Burgi to take over temporarily

Bhubaneswar, May 22: The Odisha government on Thursday formally accepted the resignation of Abhay, former Director General of Police (DGP) and Chairman of the Odisha Staff Selection Commission (OSSC). Abhay, who was appointed to the post in April 2022, stepped down before completing his five-year term.

A notification issued by the General Administration and Public Grievance Department stated:

“After careful consideration of the representation dated 19.09.2025 of Shri Abhay, Government have been pleased to accept the resignation of Shri Abhay, Chairman, Odisha Staff Selection Commission with immediate effect.”

Following his resignation, the government appointed Sudhakar Burgi, a retired IAS officer and current member of the OSSC, to act as Chairman. According to a separate notification, Burgi will discharge the responsibilities of the Chairman in addition to his existing duties, until further instructions are issued.

The development comes amid a legal challenge in the Orissa High Court questioning Abhay’s continued tenure, citing that he had crossed the upper age limit of 62 years for holding the post. The matter was under judicial scrutiny when the resignation was submitted and accepted.
