Odisha Cabinet recommends dissolution of 16th Legislative Assembly
Bhubaneswar, June 3: After convening virtually on Monday, the Odisha Cabinet, led by Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, reached a pivotal decision. They opted to formally recommend the dissolution of the 16th Legislative Assembly. This choice, made just a day ahead of the forthcoming vote count for both Lok Sabha and Assembly elections in the state, was the central focus of the Cabinet's agenda.
Chairing the virtual session from Bhubaneswar, Chief Minister Patnaik presided over discussions regarding the completion of the election process. Following deliberation, it was unanimously agreed that the Cabinet should promptly notify the Governor regarding the conclusion of the BJD government's tenure and suggest the dissolution of the Assembly.
This procedural step precedes the official announcement of election results. As per constitutional provisions, the state Cabinet traditionally passes a resolution for dissolution subsequent to the election outcome declaration. Following this, Cabinet members tender their resignation letters to the Chief Minister, who then advises the Governor to dissolve the Assembly, paving the way for the formation of a new government.
