New Delhi, Aug 1: A day after resigning from her Rajya Sabha seat and quitting the Biju Janata Dal (BJD), Mamata Mohanta officially joined the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) at its headquarters in New Delhi.
At the BJP office, Mohanta was welcomed by key party figures including Vijaypal Singh Tomar, the BJP Odisha in-charge, General Secretary Arun Singh, and several Odisha leaders such as MPs Pradeep Panigrahi, Sangita Singh Deo, and State Law Minister Prithviraj Harichandan.
Following her induction into the BJP, Mohanta expressed her gratitude to top party leaders, including Prime Minister Narendra Modi, BJP President JP Nadda, Home Minister Amit Shah, Odisha Chief Minister Mohan Charan Majhi, and Union Minister Dharmendra Pradhan.
“I resigned from the BJD because the party no longer requires my services. My main goal is to serve the people, especially the Kudumi community. I believe I will have more opportunities to do so within the BJP,” Mohanta stated to the media after joining the party. She also thanked the BJD and its president Naveen Patnaik for the opportunities provided during her tenure.
On Wednesday, Mohanta had stepped down from her Rajya Sabha position ahead of her term's conclusion and also resigned from the primary membership of the BJD, submitting her resignation to party chief Naveen Patnaik.
