J&K Assembly elections to be held in three phases starting September 18

New Delhi, Aug 16: The Election Commission of India (ECI) has announced that the Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly elections will take place in three phases, starting on September 18, with results scheduled to be announced on October 4.

The first phase of polling will occur on September 18, followed by the second phase on September 25, and the final phase on October 1. The gazette notifications for each phase will be issued on August 20, August 29, and September 9, respectively. The deadlines for nominations for the three phases are August 27, September 5, and September 12.

This announcement follows a visit by Chief Election Commissioner Rajiv Kumar, along with commissioners Gyanesh Kumar and Sukhbir Singh Sandhu, to the union territory last week. According to the CEC, Jammu and Kashmir has 87.09 lakh eligible voters, evenly split between males and females. There will be over 11,800 polling stations across the region.

Of the total voters, 44.46 lakh are male, 42.62 lakh are female, and 3.71 lakh are first-time voters. The average number of voters per polling station is 735. The 90 assembly constituencies in Jammu and Kashmir include 74 reserved for general categories, nine for Scheduled Tribes, and seven for Scheduled Castes.
