IMD predicts heavy rainfall in Odisha as two low-pressure systems form over Bay of Bengal

Bhubaneswar, Sept 19: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast the formation of two successive low-pressure systems over the Bay of Bengal, which are expected to bring widespread rainfall to Odisha in the coming days.
According to the IMD, the first system is likely to develop on September 23, followed by another on September 26. The second system is predicted to intensify into a depression and make landfall along the Odisha coast on September 27, triggering heavy to very heavy rainfall across several districts.
Rainfall activity is expected to peak on September 27 and 28, with the northern parts of Odisha facing the most significant impact. After crossing the Odisha coast, the second system is likely to move west-northwestwards, traveling further into central India.
The forecast indicates that the spell of heavy rainfall may continue between September 25 and October 1. Continuous downpour during this period could lead to a rise in water levels in rivers of North Odisha, particularly in the Mahanadi basin, raising concerns of possible flooding in vulnerable areas.
