EAM S. Jaishankar explores Odisha's cultural and historical heritage

Bhubaneswar, Jan 7: External Affairs Minister S. Jaishankar, currently in Odisha for the 18th Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, visited several prominent tourist and cultural landmarks in Puri and Bhubaneswar on Tuesday.
After arriving at Bhubaneswar Airport on Monday, Jaishankar traveled to Konark, where he stayed overnight at the Eco Retreat.
On Tuesday morning, he, along with his wife, visited the iconic 13th-century Konark Sun Temple. The couple also explored the Interpretation Centre at Konark, gaining insights into the historical and architectural significance of the temple. Additionally, Jaishankar was briefed on Odisha’s ancient maritime connections with Southeast Asian and African nations.
Later, the minister visited the 12th-century Jagannath Temple in Puri, where he offered prayers and had darshan of the holy deities. Speaking to the media afterward, Jaishankar expressed gratitude for the experience, saying, “I feel very fortunate to have the darshan of the deities at the Jagannath Temple. This has been a wonderful start to my visit to Odisha. The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is being hosted in Odisha for the first time, and the Chief Minister and administration have worked hard to make it a success. The event will be graced by the presence of the President and Prime Minister and will highlight Odisha on the global stage.”
The minister and his wife then visited Raghurajpur, a heritage crafts village in Puri. They were warmly welcomed by the artisans and had the opportunity to admire the intricate Pattachitra paintings and Chandua artwork.
Jaishankar concluded his cultural tour by visiting the Dhauli Shanti Stupa and the 11th-century Lingaraj Temple in Bhubaneswar, further appreciating Odisha’s rich history and heritage.
