Dhenkanal Police arrest man for rape after breaking into teacher’s house

Bhubaneswar, Jan 19: A 47-year-old man has been arrested for allegedly raping a woman in her rented house near the Gengutia railway overbridge under the jurisdiction of Sadar police station in Dhenkanal. The incident occurred on Friday night while the victim, a private school teacher, was alone in her residence.

The accused, identified as Hrushikesh Sahu, a mason working at a nearby sawmill, reportedly broke into the woman’s home, threatened her with a knife, and sexually assaulted her. According to police, Sahu entered the house around 8:00 pm, hid inside, and later overpowered the victim. He gagged her with a cloth, tied her hands and legs, and assaulted her at knifepoint.

The victim reported the crime to Sadar police station on Saturday, prompting authorities to register a case. Acting swiftly, the police traced the accused using his mobile phone and apprehended him while he was near the outskirts of the city.

Sadar police station IIC Deepak Lenka stated that the accused is a resident of Sharankot village in Deogarh district’s Barkot police station area. Under the supervision of District Superintendent of Police Abhinav Sonkar, Additional Superintendent of Police, and a scientific team, an investigation was conducted at the crime scene. The knife used in the attack was recovered as part of the evidence.

On Saturday, the police arrested Hrushikesh Sahu and recreated the crime scene as part of the investigation. Officials have indicated that further interrogation and legal proceedings may follow.
