Couple dies after contact with poachers' live wires in Odisha

Bhubaneswar, Jan 21: A tragic incident occurred in the Nandapur area of Koraput district, Odisha, where a couple lost their lives after coming into contact with live wires set by poachers to capture wildlife.

According to reports, the incident took place on Monday evening in Geruput village, located within the Nandapur block. The victims, identified as Balaram Galel and his wife, Bala Galel, operated a tea stall near Nandapur. They had ventured into a nearby forest to gather firewood for their evening tea but did not return home as expected. Concerned family members and villagers initiated a search for the couple.

The search led to the discovery of their bodies in the forest, entangled in electric wires that were apparently laid by poachers. This incident has incited anger among local residents, who are demanding strict action against those responsible for the poaching activities.

Upon receiving information, a police team from Nandapur arrived at the scene to begin an investigation. The authorities recovered the bodies and sent them for post-mortem examination. Efforts are underway to identify and apprehend the poachers who had set the live wires.

The family of the deceased has called on the district administration for appropriate compensation for their loss.
